Ute and Van Buyers: Awards, Best-Sellers, Cheap Business Vehicle Finance

Utes, dual cabs and vans are the workhorses of Australian business. So it’s no wonder that several utes regularly rank in the top 10 best-selling motor vehicle figures. When selecting a ute or a van, business operators have a great selection of makes and models on the Australian market – Toyota, Ford, Isuzu for starters. So when it comes to deciding which one will be the next purchase it can be a challenge. Should you go with the models which motoring experts have awarded as ‘the best’?  Opt for what’s selling best? Or in the current market with supply issues, it could be what model is available! There are a lot of individual decisions to be made but one universal criteria will be – cheap finance. Buyers of new utes, dual cabs, vans and other work vehicles are predominantly seeking cheap business vehicle finance and the most efficient way to secure their loan.

The latest best-selling vehicle data for February has recently been released as has the announcement of the winners in the annual Drive car awards. So potential buyers have plenty of information to pore over in deciding which ute or van will be their next purchase.

February’s Best Selling Utes and Vans

The FCAI releases the data each month for sales of vehicles across multiple categories. This can be an interesting guide to potential buyers as to the popularity of certain models. But in the current motor vehicle market environment with supply issues and delivery delays, the data may not accurately represent popularity. More what dealers had stock to fill orders in that month. But it’s always worth checking out.

Across all categories the trusty HiLux came out on top and Toyota held its dominance as best-selling brand. Also in the top 10 across all categories was the Triton, Ranger and D-MAX. Drilling down into specific market categories:-

4 x 2 Utes: HiLux, Isuzu D-Max and then came the Triton

4 x 4 Utes: HiLux again the top seller then the Triton and in third the Ford Ranger

Vans below 2.5t: Best seller was the Kangoo followed by the Caddy with the Peugeot Partner in third.

Vans between 2.5 and 3.5t: Another Toyota came in first, the HiAce followed by the keenly priced LDV G10 and then the Staria from Hyundai.

The FCAI reports that the light commercial market recorded an increase of 12.3% in comparison to February 2021.

Awarded Vehicles

So those are the best-sellers, now for what the experts at Drive have awarded as their picks for cars of the year in the ute categories. These awards are conducted annually and cover a heap of categories. We’ve selected just a few to highlight in the work vehicle sector.

  • Best Dual Cab Ute, Off-Road: Winner is the Ford Ranger Raptor. Finalists included Nissan Navara Pro-4X Warrior and Jeep Gladiator Rubicon
  • Best Dual Cab Ute: This year the judges announced dual winners – the Isuzu D-MAX X-Terrain and the Mazda BT50 SP. Finalists: Nissan Navara, Ford Ranger, HiLux SR5

It’s worth reading the details of how the judges come to their decisions and the criteria for each category. Interesting variations between award winners and the best-sellers. But when considering sales figures keep in mind the supply issues and that this data is only for one month.

Finance Options and Opportunities

While preferences may vary in which ute or van to purchase, Toyota, Ford, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Isuzu and other buyers will be united in their quest for great value motor vehicle finance. With fuel and other prices on the rise and materials shortages across many sectors, the need to secure cheap vehicle finance is even more important than ever.

Jade Finance offers the full portfolio of motor vehicle finance at better interest rates for business owners:-

Finance is available for all types of business operations and unlike some banks and lenders, we do offer cost-effective loans for Low Docs and No Docs Vehicle Finance.

The interest rate varies across the different types of finance products. While it is a natural instinct to head straight to the lowest-rate loan type, business operators should also assess the full range of features and benefits of each loan type. The benefits should be considered in the context of the individual business.

There are a number of variations which will or won’t best-suit different operators and different objectives. We advise customers to bring their accountant into that aspect of the decision-making to provide their expertise as many of the aspects relate to accounting practices.

Whatever finance product you want and whatever vehicle you select, it could be highly advantageous to act quickly. Interest rates are still at historic lows but it is looking extremely more likely that the RBA will move on rates in coming months.

A rate rise by the RBA will flow through to the lending markets and that could mean paying more on vehicle finance than you could secure today.
